Modern Gaming on Modern Televisions
Got an awesome gaming system like a Xbox 360 or Playstation 3? The best way, in fact the only way, to enjoy the high end graphic of these modern gaming machines is through an HD TV. Why? Well it’s simple. More lines on the television mean a higher resolution meaning those next gen games of yours, like Mass Effect 2 or Red Dead Redemption look absolutely amazing on a LCD or Plasma TV. Most modern televisions start at the lower end with resolutions from 720p, going up to 1080p for high end sets, with further resolution increases planned for the future.
HD TVs also utilise something called ‘progressive scanning’. This prevents the old problem of interlaced systems when the image would flicker between frames and the problem of interline twitter. Progressive scan counters this by filtering out fine details, so you get a super sharp, super crisp image.
For these new TV and high definition gameplay, there is a new standard of connection. While previous generations would use the A/V inputs, SCART sockets or component cables. Now the new systems come with HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) outputs for connection to corresponding inputs on your modern TV, resulting in high fidelity audio and video.
